The mesh panel WITH CROSSBAR is the variant for fences that have to carry a load: debris netting, sheeting, or the contractor's advertising.

The 3500 × 2000 mm panel carries an additional horizontal member and weighs 13 kg — the heaviest of the standard-geometry variants. The frame is built on a 38 mm vertical and 25 mm horizontal profile with 2.2–3.2 mm wire infill. The crossbar halves the mesh field and shortens the free span of the wire, which makes the panel far harder to deform.

What the crossbar is for

An open mesh surface lets wind through on its own. The problem starts once you hang shade netting or sheeting on it — the fence turns into a sail and the whole load passes into the frame and the feet. The crossbar stiffens the panel on the horizontal axis, exactly where the largest bending moment appears.

  • fences carrying debris netting or sheeting
  • panels used for banners and contractor advertising
  • sites beside footways and on exposed ground
  • frequently repositioned fencing exposed to knocks

Choosing feet and stays

A reinforced panel only makes sense with matching ballast. Where the fence is fully sheeted, use 32 kg concrete feet rather than 24 kg and plan raking stays at regular spacing, pinned or anchored to the ground. A stronger panel alone will not prevent a blow-over if the base is too light.

For a fully sheeted fence it is worth calculating the wind load for the whole run rather than for a single panel.
