Solid Hoarding Panel

Solid hoarding is a trapezoidal sheet panel that, beyond enclosing the site, cuts dust, damps noise and screens the works from view.

Panels come in three widths: 2.3 m, 2.9 m and 3 m. The choice is not only about dividing up the perimeter — the narrower the panel, the more joints per metre of hoarding, but also the easier the transport and the smaller the wind area of a single bay.

When to choose solid over mesh

Solid hoarding is chosen when enclosing the site is not enough on its own. Demolition raises dust, cutting and breaking make noise, and a compound holding expensive plant is better not visible from the footway. Trapezoidal sheet answers all three at once, which mesh will not do even with debris netting.

Wind is the governing load here

A solid face passes no air, so every bay works as a sail all the time, not only once sheeting is hung. Ballast and stays are specified differently than for mesh fencing: heavier feet, closer spacing of raking stays and consistent anchoring. This is the most common site error — solid hoarding erected on mesh-fence fittings.

Finish and reuse

Trapezoidal sheet takes repeated erection well, provided it is not bent during handling. Panels are stacked flat and moved on pallets, unlike mesh panels which can be stood in bundles. On longer contracts it is worth allowing for storage space from the outset.
